Zesto was a franchise that was started by the Taylor Freezer Corp. (now the Taylor Company) in the mid to late 1940’s. The first known Zesto Drive Inn was opened in Jefferson City, Missouri in 1948 and dozens more opened in the late 1940’s and early 1950’s including Mitchell’s very own Zesto in 1950. Eventually the franchise dissolved, but today some of the originals still operate under the Zesto name but are all individually owned.
The original building that housed Zesto in Mitchell for the first 64 years was located on South Sanborn Street and was started by Buzz Oligmiller. In 2015 Zesto relocated to 212 West 1st Avenue and currently operates out of this location from March through the end of September every year!
Zesto has been passed through many owners during it stay in Mitchell with the current owner, Brittany Royston, being at the helm since 2017 with hopefully many more years to come!!
